Due to high weather temperatures and a number of water tests carried out today, it is a sensible decision to suspend fishing on all our river fisheries from midnight tonight 11th July. This also includes the Reabrook fishery.
Our pools will remain open and we would ask you to fish them in the evening and to limit the amount of bait you use. Please do not use keep-nets. It may be necessary to close them if the conditions deteriorate.
Temperatures recorded on the river in several locations have ranged from 27 degrees above the weir to 23 degrees below the Island on Sydney Avenue. The Quarry 24.5 degrees and County Ground 25.6 degrees. Dissolved oxygen 9.4 to 9.84mg/l.
Saturation110.8% to 119.9%.
These readings make it essential to protect our fish stocks. There is the addition of an algae bloom that is beginning to appear adding to reduced oxygen of which may be more apparent in the next few days.
We shall keep monitoring the situation and inform you when it is safe for us to remove the suspension.
We thank you for your understanding and hope you respect our decision.
